Program overview
Orthopedics and Traumatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an important branch of TCM. It focuses on using TCM theories (such as qi and blood, meridians, and zang-fu organs) and unique techniques (such as bone-setting maneuvers, small splint fixation, and external and internal application of Chinese herbs) to treat fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, and bone and joint diseases. Core courses include Basic Theories of TCM, TCM Diagnostics, Chinese Materia Medica, TCM Formulas, Fundamentals of TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology, TCM Soft Tissue Injuries, TCM Bone Diseases, and Orthopedic Surgery. You will also learn modern medical anatomy, imaging, rehabilitation medicine, as well as skills like acupuncture and tuina. This major is suitable for students interested in TCM culture, with strong hands-on skills, patience, and empathy. Chinese universities have deep expertise in TCM orthopedics, such as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which have national key disciplines and clinical teaching bases, providing ample practical opportunities.
