Program overview
Acupuncture and Tuina is one of the most hands-on specialties in traditional Chinese medicine. Simply put, you learn how to use silver needles to stimulate acupoints and manual techniques to massage meridians for treating diseases and promoting health. Core courses include Basic Theory of TCM, Meridian and Acupoint Science, Acupuncture and Moxibustion Techniques, Tuina Manipulation, TCM Diagnostics, as well as modern medical foundations like Anatomy and Physiology. You'll spend plenty of time in labs practicing needling and Tuina techniques, and even have opportunities to shadow in affiliated hospitals, working directly with patients. Chinese universities have a natural advantage in this field—such as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine—with strong faculty and abundant clinical resources; many instructors are themselves inheritors of renowned veteran TCM doctors. This major suits students who are curious about TCM culture, have strong hands-on skills, and are willing to patiently explore the mysteries of the body. If you enjoy interacting with people and want to master a practical skill, acupuncture and Tuina is a great choice.
