Program overview
Orthopedics and Traumatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a very "hardcore" direction within TCM, specializing in fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, and bone diseases related to the skeleton, joints, and muscles. You will learn how to manually reset displaced bones (bone setting), use small splints to fix fractures without surgery, apply internal and external herbal medicine to accelerate healing, and incorporate acupuncture, tuina, and rehabilitation training. Core courses include *Fundamentals of TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology*, *TCM Bone Setting*, *TCM Soft Tissue Injuries*, *TCM Bone Diseases*, and *Operative Surgery*. This major is especially suitable for students who are hands-on, enjoy direct patient interaction, and are passionate about traditional therapies. Chinese universities have strong clinical advantages in this field—for example, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine all have specialized orthopedic hospitals affiliated with them, allowing students to shadow doctors and encounter a large number of real cases from the first year of graduate studies.
