Program overview
Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a secondary clinical discipline of TCM, focusing on the big issues of those "small organs" — eyes, ears, nose, throat, and mouth. You might wonder: How does TCM treat myopia, rhinitis, or tinnitus? This program holds the answers. Core courses include TCM Ophthalmology, TCM Otorhinolaryngology, TCM Stomatology, as well as Western medicine basics for the five sense organs, and acupuncture treatment for related disorders. You'll learn to diagnose and treat through the four diagnostic methods (inspection, auscultation-olfaction, inquiry, palpation) — for example, using herbal formulas to relieve dry eye, acupuncture to ease allergic rhinitis, or tuina to improve amblyopia in children. This specialty is ideal for students passionate about TCM clinical practice and who enjoy meticulous work — after all, examining the five sense organs requires patience and dexterity. Many TCM universities in China, such as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, have strong clinical bases for the five sense organs, allowing students to directly shadow renowned TCM doctors and encounter a wealth of real cases. If you're interested in integrative medicine, you'll also learn modern diagnostic techniques like endoscopy combined with TCM treatments.
