Program overview
The Ethnic Medicine program takes you into the world of traditional medicine practiced by China's ethnic minorities, such as Tibetan medicine, Mongolian medicine, and Uyghur medicine. These medical systems have a history of thousands of years, emphasizing holistic regulation like traditional Chinese medicine, but with their own unique theories, diagnostic methods, and medications. You will study core courses like the 'Four Tantras' (a Tibetan medical classic) and 'Mongolian Medicine Synopsis', and learn about high-altitude herbs, mineral medicines, and distinctive therapies such as bloodletting, moxibustion, and medicinal baths. Chinese universities like Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Tibet University of Tibetan Medicine, and Inner Mongolia Medical University have strong faculty and clinical bases in this field. Some courses are even taught directly in hospitals in Tibetan or Mongolian regions, allowing you to learn while observing. This major is suitable for students interested in traditional culture, open to natural therapies, and patient enough to memorize a large number of Tibetan or Mongolian terms. If you enjoy cross-cultural communication, you will also encounter the wisdom of different ethnic groups.
