Program overview
Pediatric TCM is a specialized branch of traditional Chinese medicine focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and health care of children aged 0-14. In simple terms, it's about using traditional methods like herbal medicine, tuina, acupuncture, and dietary therapy to help kids with issues such as colds, coughs, food accumulation, allergies, and developmental delays. Core courses include Basic Theory of TCM, Diagnostics of TCM, Chinese Materia Medica, Formulas, as well as specialized Pediatric TCM, Pediatric Tuina, and Child Health Care. You'll also learn basic knowledge of Western pediatrics, as clinical practice often integrates both systems. This major is ideal for students who love children, have patience, and are interested in classic TCM texts. Many Chinese universities of TCM (such as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine) have strong pediatric teams, and their affiliated hospitals see a high volume of pediatric outpatients, giving you exposure to a wide range of real cases. Additionally, pediatric tuina is a hallmark of TCM pediatrics—no needles or injections—and is highly trusted by parents, making it a key skill for international students to master.
