Program overview
TCM Gynecology is a specialized branch of clinical Chinese medicine that focuses on women's health from puberty to menopause, covering physiology, pathology, and disease prevention and treatment. In simple terms, it teaches how to use traditional methods like herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina, and dietary therapy to regulate issues related to menstruation, vaginal discharge, pregnancy, and postpartum care—such as dysmenorrhea, irregular periods, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), infertility, and menopausal syndrome. Core courses include TCM Gynecology, Basic Theories of TCM, Formulas, Chinese Materia Medica, Acupuncture, as well as Western medicine courses like Obstetrics and Gynecology and Diagnostics. At the graduate level, students delve into Selected Readings of Gynecology Classics, Clinical Skills in Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, and have extensive clinical rotations. This program is ideal for students passionate about women's health, who appreciate TCM's holistic approach, and enjoy long-term communication with patients. If you are patient, detail-oriented, and interested in traditional culture, you will find it rewarding. Many Chinese universities of Chinese medicine (e.g., Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine) have strong gynecology departments with extensive clinical bases. Hospitals like Dongzhimen Hospital in Beijing and Longhua Hospital in Shanghai have nationally recognized gynecology departments, offering exposure to a wide range of real cases.
