Program overview
TCM Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology is a highly specialized branch of traditional Chinese medicine that focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, and oral cavity using TCM methods. Simply put, when you experience blurry vision, ringing in the ears, nasal congestion, sore throat, or mouth ulcers, a TCM doctor in this field will use the four diagnostic methods (inspection, auscultation-olfaction, inquiry, and palpation) to prescribe herbal medicine, acupuncture, or other therapies. Core courses include Basic Theories of TCM, TCM Diagnostics, Chinese Materia Medica, TCM Formulas, as well as specialized subjects like TCM Ophthalmology, TCM Otorhinolaryngology, and TCM Stomatology. Some universities also teach modern medical anatomy and examination techniques, allowing you to integrate Chinese and Western medicine. This specialty is ideal for students who are passionate about TCM, enjoy hands-on procedures (such as ENT examinations), and are willing to delve into localized diseases. Many Chinese universities of TCM, such as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, have strong teams in this field with abundant clinical resources and exposure to typical cases.
