Program overview
Marine Engineering is essentially the study of a ship's "heart"—its power system. You'll learn how to design, install, maintain, and repair core equipment like engines, generators, boilers, and pumps on board. Core courses include ship power plants, marine automation, marine electrical systems, marine auxiliary machinery, and ship maintenance technology. This major is perfect for students who are hands-on, love machinery and the ocean, and aren't afraid to work on ships or in workshops. China leads the global shipbuilding industry, and many universities (such as Dalian Maritime University and Shanghai Maritime University) have advanced marine engine simulators and training ships, allowing you to get familiar with real working environments before graduation. International students also get exposure to International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and regulations, which is a big help for obtaining international seafarer certificates later.
