Program overview
In simple terms, this major is about how to get electricity from the power plant to your home socket stably and safely. You'll study core courses like power system analysis, relay protection, high-voltage technology, and power electronics, along with tools like automatic control and computer programming. It's suitable for students who don't mind physics and math, enjoy solving real-world problems, and are interested in energy. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, Tsinghua, North China Electric Power University, Zhejiang University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University all have strong labs and industry partnerships. Many professors work directly on projects with State Grid and China Southern Power Grid, so what you learn is not just theory. The curriculum covers cutting-edge Chinese technologies like UHV transmission, smart grids, and renewable energy integration. There are also plenty of lab sessions where you can operate simulation platforms and relay protection devices.
