Program overview
Electrical Engineering and Automation, simply put, is a major that deals with 'electricity'. You will learn how electricity is generated (e.g., thermal, hydro, wind, solar), how it is transmitted through high-voltage lines to millions of homes, and how it is used safely in factories and buildings. Core courses include Circuit Principles, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Electrical Machinery, Power System Analysis, Automatic Control Principles, PLC Programming, etc. If you are particularly interested in the electrical part of physics, enjoy hands-on experiments, or are curious about cutting-edge topics like new energy and smart grids, this major will suit you well. Chinese universities have a clear advantage in this field: many universities have deep cooperation with State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, and major power generation groups, with well-equipped laboratories and many internship opportunities. For example, North China Electric Power University, Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, etc., have strong faculty and project resources in the power system direction.
