Program overview
Marine Information Engineering is an interdisciplinary major in the field of electronic information applied to the ocean. Simply put, you learn how to use electronic devices, communication technologies, and computers to sense, transmit, and analyze marine data. Core courses include Signals and Systems, Communication Principles, Underwater Acoustic Communication, Marine Remote Sensing, and Marine Big Data Processing. You'll also get hands-on with hardcore equipment like underwater robots and marine sensors. This major is ideal for students who are curious about the ocean, enjoy hands-on experiments, and have a solid foundation in math and physics. Many coastal universities in China (such as those in Qingdao, Xiamen, and Shanghai) have strong faculty and labs in marine information, and some even offer sea-going internships, allowing you to experience the real marine environment firsthand.
