Program overview
Medical Information Engineering is an interdisciplinary major under the Electronic Information category in Engineering. Simply put, it's about "using computers and electronic technology to help doctors diagnose and hospitals manage data." You don't need to become a doctor, but you should have some basic medical knowledge—like human anatomy, physiology, and pathology—and then combine that with programming, databases, and artificial intelligence. Core courses include: Introduction to Medical Basics, C++/Python Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Systems, Medical Image Processing, Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Medical Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning. Many Chinese universities (such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, and Chongqing University) have strong labs and hospital partnerships in this field, giving you direct access to real medical data systems. This major is ideal for students who are interested in computers and don't mind biomedical topics, especially those who enjoy hands-on problem-solving.
