Program overview
Tourism Geology and Planning Engineering is a pretty cool interdisciplinary field. Simply put, it's about 'seeing landscapes through a geologist's eyes and turning them into fun travel destinations with a planner's touch.' You'll learn how to identify rocks, landforms, and geological relics, assess a place's tourism development potential, then design routes, protect resources, and plan scenic areas. Core courses include General Geology, Geomorphology, Tourism Geology, Landscape Ecology, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and Principles of Tourism Planning. China has a unique edge in this field because the country is home to numerous geoparks, World Natural Heritage sites, and famous scenic areas like Zhangjiajie, Huangshan, and Guilin—all living textbooks. It's perfect for students who love the outdoors, are curious about earth sciences, and don't want to be stuck in a lab all day.
