Program overview
Earth Exploration and Information Technology, simply put, uses physical principles and computer technology to 'see through' the Earth's interior. For example, using seismic waves to find oil, electromagnetic methods to locate groundwater, and radar to detect underground pipelines. This major is a graduate-level direction under Geological Resources and Geological Engineering. Core courses include geophysical exploration (seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical methods), remote sensing technology, geological data processing and interpretation, numerical simulation, and more. You will learn how to operate exploration instruments, process massive data, and translate physical signals into geological images. It is suitable for students who enjoy physics and mathematics and are interested in earth sciences. China has unique strengths in this field, with strong research teams at universities like China University of Petroleum, China University of Geosciences, and Jilin University. Additionally, China's abundant oil and gas fields, mineral resources, and complex geological conditions provide rich practical opportunities.
