Program overview
Geological Engineering is the study of the interaction between the Earth's surface geological bodies and engineering activities. Simply put, it's about understanding what's underground and whether it's stable, then designing safe and economical engineering solutions. Core courses include Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Mechanics, Hydrogeology, Geological Disaster Prevention, Geological Exploration Techniques, Numerical Simulation, and more. You'll learn how to use drilling rigs for sampling, radar to detect underground cavities, and software to simulate slope stability. This major is especially suitable for students who enjoy outdoor activities, have strong hands-on skills, and are curious about Earth sciences. Chinese universities are very strong in geological engineering, such as China University of Geosciences, Jilin University, and Chengdu University of Technology. They have large field practice bases and advanced laboratories, and many professors have participated in major projects like the Three Gorges Project and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, allowing you to engage with real-world cases.
