Program overview
Mineral Prospecting and Exploration is a graduate program under Geological Resources and Geological Engineering. Simply put, it teaches you how to find underground mineral deposits. You'll study core courses like ore deposit geology, geophysical exploration, remote sensing geology, and geostatistics, while also gaining hands-on skills in field mapping, drilling design, and data analysis. This major suits students who love the outdoors, have a curiosity about Earth sciences, and don't mind spending a few weeks in the Gobi Desert or mountainous areas. Chinese universities have a strong edge in this field—for example, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan and Beijing) and China University of Mining and Technology boast excellent field training bases and partnerships with major mining companies, letting you learn while working on real deposits.
