Program overview
Power Machinery and Engineering is a very "hardcore" major in engineering. Simply put, it's about making engines, turbines, compressors, and other big machines work more efficiently and environmentally friendly. You'll study foundational theories like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and combustion, as well as practical courses in power machinery design, numerical simulation, and testing techniques. Chinese universities have a strong tradition of engineering practice in this field—for example, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Xi'an Jiao Tong have deep expertise in gas turbines, internal combustion engines, and aircraft engines. If you enjoy taking things apart, are fascinated by car or aircraft engines, or want to help solve energy problems, this major is a great fit.
