Program overview
Chemical Process Machinery, simply put, is about studying how to design, build, and use those "big tanks, big pipes, big machines" in industries like chemicals, petroleum, and energy. For example, reactors in refineries, heat exchangers in chemical plants, and steam turbines in power stations are all its research subjects. This major is an intersection of mechanical and chemical engineering, requiring knowledge of mechanics, materials, heat transfer, as well as chemical processes and fluid control. Core courses include Process Equipment Design, Fluid Machinery, Heat and Mass Transfer, Chemical Engineering Principles, and Mechanical Vibrations. If you enjoy hands-on work, are interested in large industrial equipment, or want to solve practical problems like "how to make factories more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly," this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have a strong tradition of engineering practice in this field—for example, East China University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, and Tianjin University often have real-scale equipment models in their labs, and students even get to participate in corporate projects directly.
