Program overview
Landscape architecture, simply put, is about learning how to design and manage outdoor spaces—from urban parks and campus green areas to ecological reserves. At the graduate level, this field emphasizes systematic thinking and problem-solving skills. Core courses include: landscape ecology, plant configuration and landscaping, site planning and design, landscape engineering, and digital landscape technologies (GIS, BIM). If you enjoy drawing, care about environmental issues, have a sensitivity to space, and want to solve real-world problems with scientific methods, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field: for example, in-depth research on classical Chinese gardens (Suzhou gardens, Summer Palace), and recent practical cases in “sponge cities” and ecological restoration. Many schools take students on field trips and even involve them in real projects.
