Program overview
Aerospace Vehicle Design and Engineering, simply put, teaches you how to design airplanes, rockets, drones, and even spacecraft. Core courses include aerodynamics (studying how flight vehicles fly), aircraft structural mechanics (ensuring the airframe is both strong and lightweight), overall vehicle design (integrating all systems), and automatic control principles (making the vehicle obedient). You'll also learn materials science, propulsion principles, and computer-aided design. This major is ideal for students passionate about aviation and aerospace, who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, and have a solid foundation in math and physics. Chinese universities excel in this field—for example, Beihang University and Northwestern Polytechnical University—equipped with wind tunnel labs, flight simulators, and other advanced facilities. Many professors have worked on real projects like the domestic C919 large aircraft and Long March rockets, giving you access to the cutting edge of the industry.
