Program overview
Aerospace engineering is essentially about learning how to build airplanes, rockets, and satellites. You'll study aerodynamics (how planes fly), structural mechanics (how to make the airframe strong yet light), propulsion systems (how engines generate thrust), and control and navigation (how to make aircraft obey commands). Core courses include flight mechanics, spacecraft orbit design, materials science, and automatic control. A solid foundation in math and physics is essential, and hands-on skills are important too—many courses involve experiments and projects, such as building a small airplane model or designing a satellite concept. China invests heavily in this field. Schools like Beihang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Harbin Institute of Technology have strong labs and industry-university partnerships, giving students exposure to real aircraft models. This major is ideal for those passionate about aircraft, enjoy solving complex engineering problems, and aren't afraid of math formulas.
