Program overview
Smart Aircraft Technology, simply put, teaches you how to build aircraft that can fly, avoid obstacles, and plan routes on their own. For example, the delivery drones you see, air taxis (eVTOLs), and agricultural crop protection drones are all products of this major. Core courses include: Aerodynamics (understand flight principles), Flight Mechanics (calculate stable flight), Automatic Control Theory (make aircraft obedient), Machine Learning (teach it to recognize paths and avoid obstacles), and Embedded Systems (write code to control hardware). There are also hands-on courses like Drone Design and Sensor Fusion. Who is this major for? If you enjoy building things, are fascinated by airplanes and drones, have decent math and physics skills, and are willing to learn programming (Python/C++), this major will suit you well. China is very active in this field. Beihang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Northwestern Polytechnical University all have strong labs and projects where students can directly participate in real aircraft development, such as developing flight control algorithms or testing prototypes.
