Program overview
Human-Machine and Environmental Engineering is, simply put, about making the "human + machine + environment" system work better together. For example, how should the cockpit dashboard be designed to reduce pilot errors? How do we ensure astronauts breathe smoothly and stay at a comfortable temperature in the space capsule? How do we control noise in high-speed train carriages? These are all problems this program tackles. Core courses include: Human Factors Engineering, Environmental Control and Life Support Systems, Aircraft Environmental Control Technology, Human-Machine Interface Design, Engineering Psychology, Vibration and Noise Control. You'll learn how to measure human physiological and psychological limits, how to design more user-friendly interfaces, and how to calculate systems for air conditioning, oxygen supply, radiation protection, and more. This program is ideal for students interested in aviation, aerospace, mechanics, electronics, and psychology—especially those who enjoy hands-on experiments and solving real engineering problems. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field. For example, Beihang University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics have national-level laboratories and have participated in real projects like the C919 large aircraft and the space station, giving students access to cutting-edge technology.
