Program overview
Nuclear Technology and Applications, simply put, is about applying nuclear energy and radiation—things that sound very "hardcore"—to everyday fields like healthcare, industry, and environmental protection. For example, PET-CT scans and cancer radiotherapy in hospitals, non-destructive testing in factories, and food irradiation preservation all rely on this field. Core courses include nuclear physics, radiation detection technology, nuclear electronics, radiation protection and safety, and methods of nuclear technology applications. You'll learn how to design radiation detectors, calculate radiation doses, and use nuclear techniques to solve real-world problems. There are many lab sessions where you'll frequently operate instruments—perfect for students who enjoy physics, have strong hands-on skills, and don't mind working with "invisible rays." China has a distinctive edge in this field: it not only operates one of the world's largest fleets of nuclear power plants but also sees rapid growth in nuclear medicine equipment (e.g., domestically produced PET-CT) and irradiation processing industries. Many universities and research institutes (such as Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, and the Institute of Nuclear Energy Safety Technology, CAS) have strong research teams, offering access to cutting-edge projects.
