Program overview
Environmental Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary field. Simply put, it studies how to make water cleaner, air fresher, and soil healthier, while using engineering approaches to manage pollution. You'll learn the basics of chemistry, biology, physics, and geology, then dive into core courses like environmental monitoring, water treatment technology, air pollution control, solid waste treatment and resource recovery, and environmental management. Many Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, Tsinghua University's School of Environment is strong in wastewater treatment, Tongji University is renowned for solid waste and ecological restoration, and Harbin Institute of Technology has unique expertise in cold-region water treatment technology. This major is ideal for students who are curious about nature, enjoy hands-on experiments, and are eager to solve real-world problems. If you care about climate change, resource recycling, and green energy, you'll find this field truly engaging.
