Program overview
Water Quality Science and Technology, simply put, is a major that studies whether water is clean and how to make it clean. You'll learn core courses like water chemistry, microbiology, water quality monitoring, and water treatment processes, and you'll also do hands-on experiments and intern at wastewater treatment plants. This major suits students who have some interest in chemistry and biology, don't mind occasional odd smells, and want to use technology to solve real environmental problems. Many Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field, such as Hohai University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Tongji University. Their water treatment labs are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, and some professors have directly participated in projects like the Yangtze River and Taihu Lake remediation, giving you exposure to real-world cases.
