Program overview
Architecture may sound high-end, but its core is learning how to design houses, communities, and even cities. You'll study foundational courses like architectural history, design principles, structural mechanics, environmental control, and building materials. Then through studio courses, you'll repeatedly practice drawing, model-making, and computer modeling. At the graduate level, it goes deeper into areas like parametric design, green building, urban design, and architectural heritage conservation. Chinese universities have distinctive strengths in architecture—for example, Tsinghua, Tongji, and Southeast University boast strong faculty and projects, with many professors having worked on actual landmark designs. This major suits those who enjoy both art and technology, aren't afraid of all-night drawing sessions, are willing to build models by hand, and are keen to visit construction sites.
