Program overview
In simple terms, Marine Engineering is the study of ship power systems and auxiliary equipment. You might think it's just about fixing engines, but it's much more than that—from diesel engines, gas turbines, and electric propulsion systems to ship piping design and automation control, you'll cover it all. Core courses include Engineering Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Marine Power Plants, Marine Electrical Equipment, and Marine Automation. If you enjoy hands-on mechanical work, are curious about large machinery, and don't mind spending some time at sea, this major is a great fit. China is the world's largest shipbuilding nation, and many universities (such as Dalian Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University, and Wuhan University of Technology) have real ship simulators and marine engineering labs where you can operate actual ship equipment and even intern at partner shipyards.
