Program overview
Computer Architecture is a graduate major under Computer Science and Technology. Simply put, it's about how to better match hardware and software to make computers, servers, and even smartphones run faster, more power-efficient, and more stable. You'll study core courses like Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Compilers, Parallel Computing, Storage Systems, and Network Architecture. There's plenty of hands-on practice—like designing a simple CPU with an FPGA or optimizing cache strategies with simulators. This major is perfect for students who love taking machines apart, are curious about the underlying logic, and aren't satisfied with just using a "black box." Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—Tsinghua, the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology all have strong expertise in high-performance computing and chip design. Labs often work on real projects involving domestic processors (like Loongson and SW26010), offering international students a great opportunity to dive deep into system fundamentals.
