Program overview
Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) is a major in engineering that "eats both software and hardware." Simply put, you'll learn both how to write code (software) and how to design circuits and chips (hardware). Core courses include: circuit analysis, digital logic, computer organization, embedded systems, operating systems, data structures and algorithms, computer networks, etc. Some schools also offer electives like artificial intelligence, IoT, and robotics. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work and are curious about how computers work inside. If you want to write programs and also understand how code runs on chips, ECE will be right up your alley. Many top engineering schools in China (such as Tsinghua, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Huazhong University of Science and Technology) have distinctive ECE programs with new lab equipment, strong industry-university cooperation, and exposure to real industrial projects.
