Program overview
Blockchain Engineering is a very "new" major within the computer science category, focusing on how to build and maintain decentralized data systems. Simply put, it's about learning how to make data tamper-proof and transactions trustless without third parties. Core courses include: Blockchain Principles and Design, Cryptography, Distributed Systems, Smart Contract Development (Solidity), Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Networks, etc. You'll also get exposed to basics of economics and game theory, because blockchain involves incentive mechanisms. This major suits students who are curious about the underlying logic of technology and enjoy writing code. If you're interested in fintech, digital assets, supply chain traceability, and similar topics, it will be a great fit. Chinese universities have unique advantages in the blockchain field: many schools have established blockchain labs in collaboration with enterprises, such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Beihang University, etc. The curriculum often uses domestic consortium blockchain platforms (e.g., FISCO BCOS, AntChain), allowing you to directly engage with real industrial scenarios. Additionally, China is a pioneer in the digital yuan (e-CNY), so studying this major lets you closely observe the implementation process of a central bank digital currency.
