Program overview
IoT Engineering is essentially about teaching you how to connect refrigerators, streetlights, factory machines, and even farmland to the internet, enabling them to 'speak' and 'listen'. You'll learn how to use sensors to collect data (like temperature, humidity, location), transmit it via wireless networks (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G), and process it in the cloud or locally to make smart decisions. Core courses include C programming, embedded systems, sensor technology, wireless communication principles, cloud computing, and big data fundamentals. This major is perfect for hands-on students who are interested in both hardware and software—like those who want to write code and solder circuit boards. Chinese universities have many unique features in IoT, such as strong labs and school-enterprise cooperation projects at Tsinghua, BUPT, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where students can engage with real-world smart city and smart home cases.
