Program overview
Materials Forming and Control Engineering is essentially about studying how to turn raw materials like metal and plastic into the parts and products we use every day. For example, how a phone case is injection-molded, how a car engine block is cast, or how aircraft parts are welded — all fall under this major. Core courses include Fundamentals of Materials Science, Principles of Materials Forming (casting, forging, welding, injection molding, etc.), Mold Design, Fundamentals of Automatic Control, and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE). You'll also learn to use software to simulate the forming process and identify problems early. This major is perfect for students who are hands-on and love figuring out "how things are made." If you're interested in mechanics, materials, and automation, and don't want to stay purely theoretical, this will be a great fit. Chinese universities have a clear advantage in this field: many have close ties with industry. For instance, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University all offer strong practice platforms — you might even operate industrial-grade injection molding machines or 3D printers right in the lab.
