Program overview
Vehicle engineering is essentially about studying how to build better cars. You might think "car-making" is just tightening screws, but it goes far beyond that—from traditional mechanical components like engines and transmissions, to new energy cores such as batteries, motors, and electronic controls, and even to sensors and algorithms for autonomous driving. Core courses include automotive structure, automotive theory, automotive design, engine principles, as well as the now-popular electric vehicle technology and intelligent connected vehicle technology. Many Chinese universities (like Tsinghua, Tongji, and Jilin University) invest heavily in this field, with labs featuring not only disassembled vehicles but also simulation platforms and autonomous driving test tracks. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work and are interested in both mechanics and electronics; a solid foundation in math and physics is an advantage.
