Program overview
Mechanical process technology, simply put, is about studying how to turn materials like metal and plastic into the parts or machines we need through turning, milling, planing, grinding, welding, 3D printing, and more. Unlike mechanical design, which focuses on drawing, this major is more about the manufacturing process itself—how to select materials, determine processing steps, ensure precision, and improve efficiency. Core courses include Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing, Cutting Principles and Tools, CNC Machine Tool Technology, Process Planning Design, Fixture Design, Metal Materials and Heat Treatment, and you'll also learn Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and intelligent manufacturing systems. Who is this major for? If you enjoy hands-on work, are curious about how machines operate, don't mind tweaking process parameters in a workshop, or want to become someone who can turn ideas into real objects, this major will be a great fit. Chinese universities have a strong tradition of practical training in this field—many have national-level engineering training centers where students can directly operate CNC machines and industrial robots. Schools like Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Tianjin University have deep expertise in mechanical processes.
