Program overview
This major essentially teaches you how to design a machine and make it move on its own. You'll learn basics like mechanical drawing, mechanics, materials, and mechanical design, plus electrical and electronic engineering, automatic control, PLC programming, and even some robotics. Core courses include Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Automatic Control Principles, Sensors and Detection Technology. It's suitable for students who like to take things apart, are interested in cars/robots, and have good logical thinking. Many top engineering universities in China (e.g., Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University) offer plenty of hands-on opportunities in this field, with CNC machines and industrial robots in labs for direct operation.
