Program overview
Smart Interaction Design is an interdisciplinary field that, simply put, studies how people and smart products (like phones, smart speakers, robots, VR headsets) can 'talk' to each other in the most natural and comfortable way. You'll learn how to make machines understand human gestures, voice, expressions, and even emotions, then design intuitive interfaces and interaction methods. Core courses include: User Research (how to observe and interview users), Interaction Design Principles, Information Architecture, Visual Design Basics, Programming (Python or JavaScript), Human-Computer Interaction Technologies (e.g., eye tracking, haptic feedback), and Smart Hardware Prototyping (Arduino, sensors). Many Chinese universities emphasize hands-on practice, partnering with companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and ByteDance on projects, or offering dedicated innovation labs for prototyping. This major suits students who are curious about technology and enjoy figuring out 'why people use things the way they do'—you don't need to be a coding guru, but you should be willing to think from the user's perspective.
