Program overview
Smart Manufacturing Engineering is an interdisciplinary new engineering major. Simply put, it makes machines and equipment "smarter." You'll learn traditional engineering fundamentals like mechanical design and automatic control, as well as digital skills like Python programming, machine learning, and the Industrial Internet of Things. Core courses include smart sensing technology, industrial robot programming, digital twins, and manufacturing execution systems (MES). It's ideal for students who enjoy hands-on work, are interested in robots, and don't mind writing code. Many Chinese universities (such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University) have strong experimental platforms in this field, even collaborating directly with factories, so you can get hands-on experience with real smart production lines while still on campus.
