Program overview
Control Science and Engineering, simply put, is about making machines, equipment, and even entire factories work "automatically" — and do it fast and well. For example, how self-driving cars recognize road conditions, how robots grasp objects, and how factory assembly lines coordinate operations all rely on control theory. At the graduate level, you'll study core courses like modern control theory, system identification, optimal control, intelligent control, and robotics. Math and programming are fundamental skills, but don't worry — many Chinese universities (like Tsinghua, Zhejiang University, and Harbin Institute of Technology) have strong experimental platforms where you can get hands-on with drones, robotic arms, or smart cars. This major suits students who enjoy logical reasoning, have strong practical skills, and are interested in automation or artificial intelligence. If your undergraduate background is in automation, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science, you'll find the transition smoother.
