Program overview
Systems engineering, in simple terms, teaches you how to design and optimize complex systems from a holistic perspective. For example, how to layout a production line in a smart factory, how to schedule a logistics network, how an autonomous vehicle makes decisions — all of these require systems engineering thinking. Core courses include system modeling and simulation, operations research, control theory, data science, decision analysis, and more. You will also learn to use mathematical tools and computer software (such as MATLAB, Python) to analyze and solve problems. It is suitable for students with a solid math foundation, who enjoy logical reasoning and are interested in interdisciplinary fields — because systems engineering often interacts with multiple areas like mechanical, electronics, computer science, and management. Chinese universities have a strong engineering background in this field, such as Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, etc., which are closely integrated with industries like aerospace, high-speed rail, and smart manufacturing. Many lab projects are real industrial cases.
