Program overview
Wood Science and Engineering — simply put, it's about how to use wood, how to make it, and how to make it more eco-friendly and valuable. You'll study topics like the physical and chemical properties of wood, drying and preservation, adhesives, wood product design, and smart manufacturing. Core courses include Wood Science, Wood Drying, Wood-based Panel Technology, Timber Structure Design, and Wood Modification. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work, are interested in natural materials, and don't mind spending time in factories and labs. China is a major player in wood processing and furniture manufacturing, and many universities (such as Nanjing Forestry University and Northeast Forestry University) have excellent experimental bases and school-enterprise cooperation projects that let you experience the entire process from log to finished product. If you're also interested in eco-friendly materials, green buildings, or biomass energy, this field offers plenty of cross-disciplinary opportunities.
