Program overview
Forest Engineering is not just about cutting trees—it's about using engineering thinking to solve real-world problems in forest resource development, protection, transportation, and processing. Core courses include Forest Ecology, Engineering Mechanics, Wood Science, Forest Harvesting and Transportation Engineering, Forestry Machinery, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You'll learn how to design forest roads, plan harvesting schemes, use drones to monitor forests, and even participate in forest carbon sink calculations. This major is ideal for students who love the outdoors, have strong hands-on skills, and are interested in both ecology and engineering. Chinese universities have unique advantages in plantation management, forest fire prevention, and ecological restoration. Many schools, such as Northeast Forestry University and Nanjing Forestry University, have large experimental forest farms, offering plenty of practical opportunities.
