Program overview
Forest Engineering is a branch of Forestry Engineering under the engineering discipline. Simply put, it's about "using engineering methods to handle things in the forest." You may learn how to use drones and satellite remote sensing to "check up" on forests (measurement, planning), how to design forest roads and bridges for efficient timber transport, how to operate and develop forestry machinery (e.g., intelligent harvesters), and how to quickly restore the ecology after logging. Core courses include forest ecology, surveying, wood science, forest harvesting and transportation engineering, forest roads and bridges, forestry machinery, GIS and remote sensing technology, etc. This major is especially suitable for students who love the outdoors, have strong hands-on skills, and are interested in both the environment and engineering. Chinese universities have a strong practical tradition in this field. For example, Northeast Forestry University and Nanjing Forestry University have their own experimental forest farms, where you will have the opportunity to participate in real forest surveys and engineering planning. In addition, China is developing rapidly in "smart forestry," and many courses combine big data and artificial intelligence to teach you how to use technology to solve traditional forestry problems.
