Program overview
Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering is an emerging major under the Energy and Power category in engineering. It focuses on the production, storage, transportation, and application of hydrogen. Simply put, it's about turning hydrogen into an energy source as convenient as gasoline. Core courses include: Fundamentals of Hydrogen Energy, Electrochemical Principles, Fuel Cell Technology, Hydrogen Storage and Transportation Technology, and Renewable Energy Hydrogen Production. There are many lab sessions where you'll assemble small electrolyzers and fuel cells yourself. This major suits students who are interested in chemistry and physics, enjoy hands-on experiments, and want to help solve energy problems. China is investing heavily in hydrogen energy, and many universities have dedicated hydrogen labs—such as North China Electric Power University and Xi'an Jiaotong University—where you can access cutting-edge equipment.
