Program overview
This major is all about learning how to turn natural energy sources like wind, sun, water, and geothermal heat into the electricity and heat we use daily. You'll take foundational courses such as engineering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, along with core classes in solar photovoltaics, wind power, biomass energy, and energy storage. There's plenty of hands-on experience—like building a small wind turbine in the lab or using software to simulate a photovoltaic power station. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field: North China Electric Power University, Zhejiang University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University all boast national-level new energy labs and collaborate closely with industry leaders like Goldwind and LONGi Green Energy, giving you access to cutting-edge technology. This major is perfect for students who don't mind physics and math, enjoy tinkering, and care about environmental issues.
