Program overview
The Energy and Power Engineering major focuses on how to efficiently convert various energy sources (coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc.) into the power and electricity we need. Core courses include engineering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion science, principles of power machinery, and new energy technologies. You will learn how to design more efficient engines, power plants, or develop clean energy systems like solar and wind power. This major is suitable for students who are interested in physics and mathematics and enjoy hands-on problem-solving in engineering. Chinese universities have invested heavily in the new energy field. For example, Tsinghua University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have strong capabilities in both traditional power and new energy, with advanced laboratory equipment and close ties to the industry.
