Program overview
Gas Turbine Engineering is a graduate program in the field of energy and power, focusing on the design, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance of gas turbines—efficient rotating machines that convert fuel thermal energy into mechanical energy. Simply put, you learn how to build a more powerful, fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly "industrial heart." Core courses include gas turbine principles, turbomachinery aerothermodynamics, combustion science, structural strength and vibration, and control and testing technologies. You'll experience the complete process from theoretical modeling to experimental testing, with many courses leveraging advanced experimental platforms at Chinese universities, such as high-temperature and high-pressure combustion rigs and full-scale compressor test stands. This program suits students interested in mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, who enjoy hands-on experiments and can handle some math and programming challenges. China has made significant investments in gas turbines through the "Two Engines Project" (aero engines and gas turbines), with strong research teams at Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Xi'an Jiao Tong, and Harbin Institute of Technology, among others. International cooperation projects are abundant, offering international students opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research.
