Program overview
Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering is a graduate program under Agricultural Engineering in the engineering discipline. Simply put, it studies how to use water in farmland just right while protecting the soil. Core courses include Soil Science, Hydrology, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation, and Agricultural Water Resources Planning and Management. You will learn how to design water-saving irrigation systems, predict farmland water demand, manage saline-alkali land, and even use remote sensing to monitor crop water stress. This program is ideal for students interested in the intersection of agriculture, environment, and water resources, especially those who enjoy hands-on problem-solving. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, China Agricultural University is a global leader in water-saving irrigation technology, and Northwest A&F University has extensive experience in water and soil resource management in arid regions. Many labs collaborate on international projects.
