In simple terms, this major is about learning how to create pleasant and functional scents. You'll study core courses like fragrance chemistry, flavor blending, and sensory evaluation, and get hands-on with experiments—using gas chromatography to analyze scent components or blending your own perfume. It's perfect for those with a keen nose, a love for chemistry experiments, and a touch of artistic flair. China has a unique edge in this field; for example, Shanghai Institute of Technology's fragrance program is nationally renowned and collaborates with major international fragrance companies (Givaudan, Firmenich), giving you access to the latest blending techniques and market trends.

现在大家生活好了，对香味的要求越来越高——从食品饮料到化妆品、洗衣液、甚至电子烟，都离不开香料香精。中国是全球最大的香精生产国和消费国之一，行业增长很快。国际学生可以关注几个方向：一是天然香料提取，比如从植物里提取精油；二是功能性香精，比如能助眠或提神的香味；三是数字化调香，用AI辅助设计新香味。这些领域在中国都有不少机会，而且很多公司需要懂国际市场的留学生。

Career prospects

毕业后路子挺宽的。可以去香精香料公司（比如国际巨头或国内企业）做调香师、应用技术员、品质控制；也可以去食品、日化、烟草企业做研发或采购；还能进检测机构或政府部门做香料安全评估。刚入行薪资大概8000-12000元/月（一线城市），有经验的调香师年薪能到30万以上。国际学生如果中文好，还可以做国际业务或技术翻译，帮中国公司对接海外客户。
